Bears, Lakes and Halloween Party for the Kids

From Pam Herrenkohl's facebook today: (she lives on BQHill by Gas Canyon)
Driving home tonight I spot a family of FOUR bears having a buffet in the neighbor's garbage can. The two babies scurried up a tree when I shined my headlights on them. Came home, got Chris and his spotlight and went back there. They had moved on to the next neighbors garbage can. Got a great look at the cubs. Soo adorable! What baffles me is why every week some of our neighbors continue to put their garbage cans out the night before garbage day. Hello people - we live in bear country! They must enjoy picking up the mess in the mornng. Then Chris shows me my soft sided ice chest they had taken gold mining and accidently left outside. The bears ripped it to shreds last night. Now I know why Jubilee was barking and jumping up at by bedroom window in the middle of the night. We had company! Gotta love life in the mountains.

SO REMEMBER FOLKS, SET THAT ALARM AND PUT THE GARBAGE OUT IN THE AM.  ALSO, YOU MIGHT WANT TO FREEZE PARTICULARLY GOOD SMELLING  FOOD IN YOUR FREEZER (CHICKEN AND FISH PARTS) BEFORE PLACING IT IN GARBAGE CAN IN THE AM.  CUTS DOWN ON APPEALING ODORS.
IF THE BEARS GET USED TO THE "BUFFET" YOU ARE FURNISHING, THEY GET BOLDER AND BOLDER.  THIS PLACES YOU AND THEM IN DANGER OF A CONFRONTATION.  BE A RESPONSIBLE WOODS RESIDENT.  THEY WERE HERE FIRST, AND THEY ARE PEACEFUL ANIMALS, UNLESS PROVOKED OR HUNGRY.  READ UP ON OUR FRIENDLY BUT LARGE BLACK BEAR FRIENDS.

THANKS PAM FOR LETTING ME KNOW THAT LOST MINE LAKE WAS DRAINED TO HELP WITH THE PLANT LIFE THAT IS TRYING TO TAKE IT OVER.  I WONDERED WHAT ALL THE DREDGING WAS ABOUT.  HOPE IT WILL BE BACK TO NORMAL NEXT YEAR.
WOMENS CLUB IS LOOKING FOR HELP WITH THIS YEAR'S HALLOWEEN PARTY. PLEASE CONTACT JAN GUEVEL IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO HELP. JANMGUEVEL@YAHOO.COM.  NEED COOKIE DECORATORS, ROOM DECORATORS, SET UP, TAKE DOWN AND PUNCH BOWL ATTENDERS. THIS IS A FUN EVENT THAT THE KIDS OF THE SHORES REALLY LOOK FORWARD TO.
THIS YEAR NEVADA CITY IS HAVING THEIR FIRST EVER HALLOWEEN PARADE (MY GAWD THIS CITY LOVES A PARADE).  LOOK OUT FOR INFO. IN THE UNION.COM, OR ON MYNEVADA COUNTY.COM.
